Statutory Entitlements

What are the statutory entitlements for ECTs?

· Access to accredited training based on the Early Career

Framework. They must engage with this as part of Teacher

Standard 8 and also to meet expectations of professional

conduct.

· Regular high quality mentoring by a trained mentor preferably

during the school day:

*1 h per week in Year 1

* 1h per fortnight in Year 2 (funded by DfE)

· Additional non-contact time:

*10% in Year 1

* 5% additional in Year 2 (funded by DfE)

· CPD that matches their needs e.g. opportunities to observe other

teachers (“expert colleagues”)

· Support and guidance from an Induction Tutor

· Regular reviews of progress with clear targets to aid professional

development; this is the responsibility of the Induction Tutor

· Appropriate responsibilities (e.g. teaching within the subject or

phase for which the ECT trained)

What should additional non-contact time be used for?

The Induction Lead / Tutor, along with the Mentor, should ensure that the ECT’s non-contact time is wisely used to support professional development, providing guidance and working with the ECT to plan this.

Mentor and Tutor meetings may take place in this time.
